Blending political debate and sketch comedy, Electoral Dysfunction began during the 2012 election cycle. The format is simple: a panel of comedians, political commentators and other special guests debate current events and politics, then use that debate to create a comedy show. The result was an acclaimed weekly run at the PIT to sold out houses of all political persuasions.
Notable guests have included Brian Lehrer (WNYC's The Brian Lehrer Show), Lizz Winstead (co-creator, The Daily Show, Lady Parts Justice), Robert George (The New York Daily News), John Fugelsang (MSNBC, Sirius XM), Dee Dee Benkie (Fox News, Al Jazeera), Elliott Kalan (Head writer, The Daily Show w/Jon Stewart), Negin Farsad (The Muslims Are Coming, TED Talks) and even President Barack Obama (as played by Dion Flynn of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon).
Electoral Dysfunction goes up every Saturday night at 7:30 PM, only at The Peoples Improv Theater in midtown Manhattan. There is a monthly version of the show at the UCB Sunset theater in Los Angeles, and the show recently enjoyed a sold out run on the road in Philadelphia during the 2016 Democratic National Convention.
