Educator001As a teacher and educator, Tom has worked with students of all ages and backgrounds, from high school to adult continuing education, and every level in between.

Currently, Tom is part of the adjunct faculty at Drexel University’s Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts and Design, where he teaches courses on comic book and graphic novel story editing as part of the college’s Screenwriting and Playwriting program. The curriculum includes an intensive study of all facets of comic book production as well as guest lecturers from within the industry. In the fall of 2014, he joined the faculty of Gotham Writers’ Workshop.

Tom also works with 826NYC, a nonprofit writing center in Brooklyn, New York, where he has taught courses on graphic novel production and Writing the Superhero. This summer he will be one of the instructors with 826′s Summer Filmmaking Intensive. Tom’s teachers in writing for media and entertainment have included Kevin McDonald (Kids in the Hall), Michael Showalter (The State), Dion Flynn (The Tonight Show), Ian Abrams (Early Edition) and Barrymore Award winning playwright Bruce Graham.

Tom also teaches fundamentals of improvisation to high school and college students, actors, corporate clients and more.  Tom trained in improv performance at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, the Magnet Theater, and the Peoples Improv Theater with instructors Ali Farahanakian (Saturday Night Live), Ashley Ward (Fifty Shades: The Musical!) Kurt Braunohler (Bob’s Burgers), and Lorraine Cink (Baby Wants Candy).
